TRAINING AT THE COORONG WILDERNESS LODGE

The Coorong wilderness Lodge is run with the assistance of a team of six full-time trainees, and offers the opportunity for indigenous people to gain recognised TAFE qualifications. Because of the distance of the Coorong area to the nearest college, trainees are trained on-the-job by visiting trainers from Onkaparinga TAFE who visit on a regular basis. The trainees currently undertake training in Tourism, Hospitality, Commercial Cookery, Sport and Recreation, and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander studies.

Training is an essential component of the Lodge without which the Lodge woiuld not be able to offer a full range of activities. For the trainees, it is not only providing them with the skills and knowledge to work at the Coorong Lodge, but with valuable tourism and hospitality experience which will be transferrable to other establishments should they ever require it, and which will provide them with career path options. The Coorong Wilderness Lodge is proud of the past, and certainly confident of the future.
